Personal Statement

Since my childhood I have always been attracted towards the technology. The attraction towards the technology made me choose the IT career. To fulfil this career I chose to study the IT course. In current situation Nepal lacks the colleges to give good education to students. In search of the colleges I found Islington college. With direct affiliation to London Metropolitan University of London. The only college that provides international degree in Nepal. University level education is very different from the high school level education. As the study style is different from each other. In high school there were large ratio difference between students and teacher. But here in islington college there is narrow difference in teacher and student ratio. This helps in direct relation between students and teachers. There were four modules in the first semester. They are Logic, Introduction to Programming, Problem Solving for IT and Study Skill for Computing.l In Logic we have to study about logic gates, binary numerical conversion, sets, relations and functions. From this I can say that its a mathematical subject. Even though I don't like mathematics, this subject turned out to be very interesting. I learned a lot form this module as it did not have much of numbers but many logical questions in direct relation to mathematics. From this I have learned to give logical statements in every questions provided. Module Introduction to Programming is all in all programming. From the day I attend the class of that module I have been taught Java Programming. In this we had to write the program of simple mathematical calculations with various tools of programming like loop, arrays, constructors and many other. In the process of creating different programs, we were given two coursework in BlueJ to create a car rental system first and the second was property rental system. This was one of the hardest topic to overcome in full semester. Third module was Problem Solving for IT. In that module I had to learned about the various logical questions and ways to solve them in best and shortest possible ways. I faced difficultly in solving all those problems. Then the start of Ms-Excel brought me an interest in the module. I was able to solve all my coursework of excel in no time. Access was also an interesting topic the database relation management was a little tricky part but a little help from the tutor helped me overcome that part. The last module was Study Skills for Computing. In this module I was taught about how to develop the personality skill in doing all my projects. With this module I had to create a blog and post various IT related articles. The next was the powerpoint presentation. Working with group was very hard. The thinkings and ideas of different classmate was different, this created problems in combining ideas. We then divided our work and then combined the ideas with the help of various off group friends. The presentation went well the only comment I got during the presentation was that I had very less eye contact with the viewers. That is what I will improve in the next presentation. With very less attendance in the lecture classes due various problems I didnt get to learn the full semester properly. But a little help from the extra caring classmates and helpful tutors helped me to get through the problems. With the career I have already chosen, I will tackle with all the problems. Academic Development after Week 5

I had already learnt many things after week 5. Till this week I have learnt the various things about logic, programming and also how to presentation. Each and every week we come over,we learn many new things. The modules are getting tougher and tougher week by week.

During week 5, there was exam held. I had not fully prepared for the exams, but still I attended my exam. The exams went well but the result was not as I had expected, it was well below the expectation. That gave me an inspiration on working hard. I found logic module the hardest among other modules. So since then I have started to work hard in that module. Introduction to BlueJ IDE had started which I found easy. Playing with Class in BlueJ taught me more about Object-oriented Programming. I made a flow chart that contained every step of programming a house in BlueJ. I  had learnt to use two module courses in one. In the class of  Personality Development Program we were taught on how to make a good PowerPoint presentation. We had groups separated. In my group there was Jibesh, Nikesh and me myself. We choose the topic Steps in Installing and configuring DNS server in Windows Server 2003. That was my first ever presentation I had made.

After Week 5 I found myself learning many thing academic and also non-academic. The things I learnt in this week was very fruitful.

PDP: Computer Components

A computer is a collection is of various components, components which makes the operation of computer possible, the basic computer components which makes the whole big calculator possible can be categorised as per their roles
1)Input: Computers and humans understand different laguages.Humans speak language consistig of many characters, structure, grammar numbers symbols etc, but due to limit of computer they are unable to understand only 1&0's.so the human laguage should be translated into machine understandable language so various components work together to make that possible they are:
a)Keyboard
:keyboards are Very essential component of a computer this input component enables user to enable entering data.Keyboard translates human understandable data into machine understandable, for example the letter 'A' as we know is converted into electric current and passed on for computer to understand and manipulate it
b)Mouse
Mouse one revolutaionary component,it is one of the component which makes the Character based interface (CUI) old and Graphical User Interface possible. It can also be considered as the main component for GUI thats why GUI is also sometimes known as point and click interface.Mouse was first introduced in Mac computers by Apple With 5 pin DINN connector, now it is available in all computers,we cannot find computers without mouse now a days every computer has one, atleast a virtual one. They are currently available in ps/2 USB(universal serial bus),Wireless.
c)Mic
Mic,a multimedia input system.Mic accoryum for microphones is one is the input devices which enables user to input voice signals into computer system for various purposes. The voice signals however after conversion from analog signal into digital has to go through some loss so it is un-noticeable but still notas pure as natural voice signals.
2)Processing
:this is the actual task that takes place infront of us but inside the circuits, all the signals flow in the form of high or low and is calculated precessed and presented(output) to user. The processor is the brain of the big calculator known as computer,it is responsible for all the calculations it is a superfast calculator which can perform millions and millions of calculations per second which makes the multimedia a reality.
3)Output
Now all the data to be entered has ben entered and precessed too, now its time to show the result, the results can be displayed on/by various output devices depending on their nature,Basically they are as follows
a)Monitor:
Monitor, this is the most common component in terms of output,a computer might not have other output components but without monitor processing is almost impossible. It is responsible for displaying images to the user that might be plain texts of any colorful image or moving object as flash videos or there viewable output
b)Speakers
Speakers is one output component, but it is not mandatory that much except for in multimedia fields like music or any other that has to deal with audio.Even though it is not important for operation of computer but it has become a essential component for the reason of high demand in entertainment.

Reality of IT in Nepal

It seems very fruitful sector in views of many people of Nepal. But its NOT. Many people have been able to survive in IT sector only due to outsourcing from foreign countries. Nepali business has still more to do as they are still relying in classic accounting and business management system. They have not realized the ability of Information Technology to their business. Even though they realize the need of IT to their to their business, they are not clear on how to implement it. This exactly happened to a company that felt the need of an ERP software. The company needed it but the executives were not sure of how much information to put into the system. Even though they were guaranteed  of the security they were not able to disclose all details in it.
